A Sparrow Falls
I enjoy bird watching. There are endless varieties of birds. Crows fascinate me with their intelligence. Hummingbirds amaze me with their flying skills. Scarlet tanagers stun me with their bright color. Purple martins astonish me with their ability to return to the same martin coop at the same time every year. At our house I believe it was April 15th. Pileated woodpeckers can bang on a tree with their beaks violently. Their beaks never break, and they suffer no concussion. Then there is the sparrow. I never pay any attention to them. For many they are a nuisance bird. If they nested in the martin coop or in a bluebird box, well you can fill in the blanks.
God created such a fascinating world for us to enjoy and oversee. I stand in awe of His handywork. To understand God is to understand that He not only created everything, keeps order in the universe, but cares for even the lowliest of birds, the sparrow. If God cares for the sparrow, and He does, how much more does He care for us!
When we go through valleys on our journey it does not mean He has forgotten us. It means He wants us to learn more about His grace and unfailing love. God knows when a sparrow falls to the ground. Certainly we can trust Him not to forget us.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.” Matthew 10:29 NIV
