Storms
There was one thing my sister dreaded, storms. Many an hour was spent on the phone with her talking about what the sky looked like and how close the lightning was.
This spring there have been numerous storms and tornado outbreaks. My daughter and son in law are on their way to Wisconsin from Iowa and were shocked by the tornado devastation there.
I have seen areas hit by tornadoes and there are two things that stand out, their power and their randomness. I have seen a piece of straw stuck like an arrow in a wooden telephone pole. I have seen one family’s home flattened and another’s next door untouched.
The storms of life can come upon us unexpectedly. Our lives can resemble a tranquil sunny day. Then suddenly a drunk driver blows a stop sign, and our world is turned upside down.
My sister missed tornadoes, but the storms of life hit her hard. Her husband went home to be with Jesus after a short battle with a cancerous brain tumor, later a daughter, and then a second daughter both from cancer. Through those storms her faith In Jesus only grew. It never wavered.
There are always more storms on the horizon. They can come in many forms, as all storms do, but we know the One who can bring peace to our souls, though the winds swirl around us, Jesus! When tornado sirens sounded my sister headed to her safe place. When the storms of life came upon her, she headed to her safe place, Jesus!
“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:7 NIV
