Satan Made Me Do It
While I was a missionary in Kenya I often hired day laborers to do various outside chores, like cutting the grass by hand with a machete.
Anyway, this one guy came regularly asking for work and so I began to give him chores, one of which was to go to a nearby store and buy some bananas. I didn’t have any small bills, so I gave him what was equivalent to a ten-dollar bill. He took it and off he went.
He never returned for six months. However, there came a day where I saw him walking up our driveway with his head hanging low. I asked him why he never returned with my change and the bananas. First, he said that he never had a ten-dollar bill in his hands in his entire life. He was well into his forties. Then then told me, Satan made him do it. Second. He said he was hungry, sleeping on the streets, and rats were biting him as he slept. He had the bites marks on his arms and legs to prove it. I gave him work that day. He helped me butcher some rabbits I was raising. He was so hungry he ate the raw livers from the rabbits before I could stop him. That is hunger.
It is so easy to blame Satan or others for our bad choices and the resulting consequences. Before blaming anyone else first ask God to show you what part you have played in ending up in the unpleasant situation you find yourself in.
