When I go by the sheep enclosure there is one thing I enjoy seeing. The sheep just laying down, content. Now, their enclosure is far from luxurious. It does not have a heated or air-conditioned barn. It does have three sided shelters that are dry and provide a place to escape from the sun, rain, or snow.
They lack nothing to be able to be content. But, lacking nothing is not the same as having everything, like a heated or air-conditioned barn.
In Psalm 23, sorry for the typo yesterday where I typed Psalm 26 instead of Psalm 23, God says we will “Lack Nothing” because the Lord will and does provide everything, we “Need” but not everything we “Want.”
I can be content, satisfied, with what Jesus provides for me in each stage and every situation in life. I truly need no more.
So, when I see the sheep laying down in their pasture, content with what they have, food, water, and shelter I ask myself this question. Have I learned to be as content in my pasture with all that I have? I even get to live in a heated and air-conditioned house.
There is no end to wanting more. Thinking about what I don’t have will never bring peace to my soul. Understanding, in Christ, I lack nothing brings contentment to my soul. Contentment, like a sheep laying down in a green pasture chewing its cud. “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” Psalm 23:1 NIV
