Growing up I had a pet fox, squirrels, crows, skunks, racoons, and yes even a dog. Each pet was unique, and I enjoyed them all. I remember taking my skunk for a walk on a leash in the town’s grocery store. That raised a few eyebrows. I remember my mom getting calls from angry neighbor women when my crow would walk down their clothesline, pull the clothes pins off, and drop their clean wash on the dirty ground. Those days are long gone.
The first thing I learned about having so many different types of wild pets is they first need to learn to trust you. You know you only want what is best for them, but they need to understand that too. That trust begins when they take that first bit of food from your hand without biting it. Once you gain their trust you can develop this bond with them that runs deep and lasts a lifetime.
The Lord wants us to be able to put our trust in Him. He only wants what is best for us, but we need to understand that too. That trust is developed slowly over time as we journey through the valleys of life. Every time He provides exactly what we need, that trust bond grows. It lasts a lifetime.
“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,” Nahum 1:7 NIV
