My mother, brother, uncle, and niece came to visit me while I was living in Nairobi, Kenya. Whenever family or friends came to visit, they always wanted to go on a Safari. We headed to the famous Masai Mara Game Preserve, for the adventure of a lifetime.
We saw many lions, elephants, hippos, and cape buffalo. What a memory they could take home. But the most memorable part of the trip was yet ahead.
Leaving Masai Mara I decided to take a scenic route along a river. Halfway through, the road kept getting worse. We went through washouts I was sure we would never make it out of. There were no other vehicles using this road. Taking a closer look at the map I discovered it was to be used by 4-wheel drive vehicles only. There was no turning back. My mother was crying by this time. To make matters worse the road was covered with large thorns that had fallen from the trees. I only had so many tires. My hope was to get everyone out safely.
We made it out with only one flat tire from a thorn. Amazingly, the tire did not go flat until we were on a paved road headed on our next adventure. Thank you, Jesus.
That day I discovered anew that even in the scariest moments we can find peace and joy as we trust in Jesus.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 NIV
