Have you ever done something and when you are finished you wonder why you did it? When we built our home, it was on a small hill that was barren of all trees.
I soon discovered why there were no trees. Under a thin layer of topsoil was nothing but sand, gravel, and small rocks. It was a perfect building site because we would never have to worry about water in our basement. It was an awful building site when it came to landscaping.
I wanted trees to line our 270-foot-long driveway. Try planting trees over sand and gravel. I never hauled so much water to just keep those 12 trees alive. There were times they looked ready to die. We just kept watering, and in the end, it turned out like we envisioned it. They are close to forming a canopy over the driveway. Our original vision.
That is how it is when we work for the Lord. It is not easy and at times we may want to quit. At other times it seems like all we are doing is not producing the results we had hoped for. God gets that, so He has given us these words to encourage us by.
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
