Tender Toes
Can you remember the last time you were bare foot; you were not paying attention to where you were walking, and you stubbed your toe. I can and it was painful. My toe turned black and blue and it hurt me for days until it healed. Toes are very tender when they are injured.
I feel so bad about the time Monika and I were getting into an elevator. She was wearing sandals. I let her get in first. Many other people were waiting to get on the same elevator, so it was going to be full. As people kept pushing in, I made a step back, stepped on her toe, and broke it. There is no way to fix a broken toe, other than rest, ice, and some pain killers. We were on vacation so that did not help. Fast forward years later. That toe is still tender. How do I know? Every time our dog Jack happens to step on her toe she feels the pain. Not only are toes tender but the heal slowly.
The Bible talks about another part of our body that is very tender, gets hurt easily, and takes time to heal, our hearts. Today, let us be careful not to emotionally step on someone’s toes and hurt their heart. Be sensitive today if you meet someone who has a hurting heart. Bring healing with kind words and thoughtful actions.
“Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;” 1 Peter 3:8 NKJV
