We all want peace. We want peace in our families, churches, communities, government, and world. Conflict is the lack of peace and war is the ultimate level of conflict.
As followers of Jesus, we understand the source of all conflict. Satan is evil to the core. He has no greater joy than to rob whoever he can of peace. He even wants to rob people of the hope of there ever being peace.
The Word of God is clear that in this world, living as a follower of Jesus, we will encounter tribulation and conflict. So, I ask myself how can I know peace today, forget about tomorrow? There will be enough bad news and struggles going on tomorrow that will want to rob me of my peace. I need to be at peace today! I will never be at peace tomorrow, if I cannot learn to be at peace today.
Indeed, it begins with being at peace with God today. If my heart is out of touch with God, there can be no peace. If there is unconfessed sin in my life, it must be confessed and dealt with first. God is the source of peace. There is no way to have God’s peace in my heart while cutting myself off from the source of peace, through sin in my life.
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6
