Today I go in for my annual physical. Annual physicals are something you get used to enduring. You go in for blood work ahead of time. The nurse weighs you, asks you a series of questions and then checks your vital signs, temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. You then hear that knock on the door and the Dr. enters. He does a quick once over and discusses the blood work with you. All very routine. At least, that is what we pray for.
I go to a Dr. to have my body checked over. I may feel OK, but it is always good to have someone who knows what to look for, check me out. If things are not right, the Dr. can recommend medicine or something else to get the numbers in a better place.
The Word of God serves the same purpose for me spiritually. It is amazing that as I read the Word of God things, I never noticed about my spiritual life become clear.
The Word of God is powerful and points out not only that which I should not be doing but things I am not doing, that I should be doing. It can even perform spiritual surgery.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 KJV
