Your Inheritance
When my mom and dad passed away, I received an inheritance. It was not much but they owed me nothing. Before I could receive the inheritance, I had to make sure all their debts had been paid.
Inheritance is the way, that which is of value, is passed on to whoever you designate in your will or trust. If you have not thought about that, now might be a good time. It involves lots of wisdom and planning.
Did you know God has put a lot of thought and planning into our spiritual inheritance? The parent’s children receive the inheritance. For God to give us a spiritual inheritance we need to become part of His family. He had that well thought through. He said that we can become His adopted children by placing our faith in His Son, Jesus.
There was one huge problem yet remaining for His spiritual blessings to be transferred to us. Our debt of sin had to be paid. That debt was huge, so vast, that only God himself could satisfy it. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross to satisfy that debt of sin. When God says He loves us, He really does.
By faith we become adopted into the family of God, receive the Holy Spirit as our inheritance, and are destined to spend all eternity in heaven. We have no idea how priceless that inheritance is. It never gets used up!
“and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,” 1 Peter 1:4 NIV
