I have built and tried to build many things from childhood on. The first thing I tried to make was a kite. I found some very thin sticks, got some string, glue, old newspaper, and fashioned a kite out of it. It flew, sort of. Then I tried to make a kite that was like five feet tall. I found bigger sticks etc., but that one, not even sort of flew. It was fun trying.
My next project was a doghouse for my pet dog. That went rather well. I made a chicken coup out of mud bricks while in Iran. I learned that I am not a mason. It was really crude.
Back in the states and after some on the job training, I built a garage for someone. Next came framing up a cottage, for my friend. It was so easy to build that cottage, because my friend was a perfectionist. He laid the squarest foundation I ever built anything on. Starting out with a square and solid foundation made everything else so much easier. It taught me how important that first phase of construction was to all that comes next.
So, it is in our Christian lives. Jesus is the Rock, the solid foundation of our Christian life. When we build our lives on Him, the rest of our journey will be much easier.
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11 NIV
