The Light
From early childhood my parents always left a light on in my room. Perhaps it was because I was sure there were monsters under my bed or in my closet. Having the light on made me feel more secure. I knew, in my childish way of thinking, evil monsters were afraid of the light. Even if I checked under the bed or in the closet before I went to bed they somehow could still appear if it was dark. Over the years I finally figured out monsters were not hiding under my bed or in the closet and could sleep in the dark.
Light dispels darkness. It allows us to see our surroundings. I don’t know how a deer can run through a woods in the dark of night and not run headfirst into a tree. I need a flashlight to keep me from falling over branches as I slowly and carefully walk through the woods when it is dark.
God’s Word lights our path and shows us the way we should go. It points out evil to avoid and safe paths to follow. During those moments when we are lonely, afraid, or depressed it provides light to our souls as we read or remember God’s promises to us.
May the light of God’s good news illuminate your path and show you the direction He would have you take. Follow the light of Jesus!
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12 NKJV
