It’s A Rock
When I was young, I enjoyed walking on shorelines. My eyes were often drawn to the rocks I was walking on. I would look for the perfect size and shape rock to see how far I could throw it into the water. It had to be round, fit perfectly into my hand, and not to heavy. Then I discovered the joy of skipping rocks. A skipping rock had to be flat, smooth on the edges, and fit just right for my fingers to send it spinning across the surface of the water. In the end, they were just rocks.
Now many years later I have taken a different interest in “rocks.” Not only do they come in all sorts of shapes but also hardness. Some are very hard, and some are soft, as far as rocks are concerned. The harder the rock the better you can polish it. Good luck trying to polish a soft rock.
The bible has a lot to say about “rocks.” Jacob and Laban made a pile of rocks. They used them to serve as a boundary and reminder between them that they should not cross that boundary and harm the other.
The Bible talks about Jesus being a rock. Sad to say it goes on and says that many have rejected Him. “As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—.” 1 Peter 2:4 NIV
The Israelites drank water that flowed miraculously from a rock. We too can drink from that same spiritual rock.
“and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10:4 NIV
