Trials
What comes to your mind when you read that word? Does your mind go to a courtroom, with two opposing parties seated across from each other? I have experienced trials personally. When the judge makes his or her decision, it’s final.
As Christians there is yet another form of trials. The testing of our faith through experiencing troubles or adversity. God allows trials to test our faith. Not to see if we will fail but to produce greater dependence upon Him. We learn to depend upon God during trials. We know we cannot get through them on our own. We seek His help and turn to Him in prayer.
When friends or family face similar trials that we have already experienced, let’s say a battle with cancer, we can sympathize and console them on a far deeper level.
Trials reveal what is inside of me that God wants to clean up in my life. Let’s say I am an impatient person, and God desires me to be a more patient person. How does God produce patience in my life? How does He help me see how impatient I am. He does that by sending trials into my life.
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4 NKJV
