Getting a Do Over
Occasionally in sports a football kicker misses a field goal, but then gets a second chance because the other team committed some penalty on the play. On the second attempt the field goal is good. For most of us, we only get one chance to get it right the first time.
I recently got back from vacation and as I walked into church I saw Gospel tracts on the table. My heart was crushed. I wish I had taken handfuls of them on vacation. I could have handed them out to numerous people I met but there they still sat in neat piles. The opportunity was lost. Feeling awful will not get a tract in the hands of the lady who made our bed every day, or our bus driver. You know what I am talking about, missed opportunities.
Once Jesus was walking with His disciples through some fields and they were busy checking out the crops. Jesus tells them to lift up their eyes and look differently. We need to recognize the opportunities we may be missing to share our faith in whatever way we can.
I have a choice to make. I can let one missed opportunity keep me from the next opportunity or I can take advantage of the next opportunity by having a supply of Gospel tracks handy at all times. You get the point. Forget what might have been and pay attention to the now! God wants to use us today!
“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” Colossians 4:5 NIV
