Tree Leaves
If the leaves of trees could tell a story they might begin by saying this. I belong to a mighty white or red oak tree. I belong to a sugar or silver maple tree. You can tell the type of tree by its leaves or needles for that matter.
Tree leaves here in East Central Wisconsin tell us when fall is approaching. Just the other day Monika told me to look carefully out our patio door and notice a few leaves that were beginning to change color. What beauty yet awaits us as we witness the spectacle of the fall colors reflecting off glassy lakes.
The leaves of trees tell us if they are thirsty. I planted twelve maple trees along our driveway on some very sandy and gravelly soil. When their leaves began to curl, I could tell it was time to haul more water to each one of them before they died.
Jesus reminds us that just like the budding of leaves in the spring are a sign that summer is coming so when people see great signs in the heavens Jesus is just as certainly coming back. Lord Jesus come quickly!
“And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. 32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.” Matthew 24:31-32 NIV
