Day 33
Read: Exodus 4:18 – 7:13
In today’s reading, God is preparing Moses for His mission by demanding absolute obedience. Despite facing initial failure, discouraging feedback, and a hardened Pharaoh, today’s reading emphasizes that God is sovereign, using these obstacles to display His power and ensure His redemptive plan succeeds.
Did anyone else have to re-read Exodus 4:24 over and over again? I DID! It felt like it just came out of nowhere!
Moses is on his way to Egypt and God chose him and gave him the power to perform specific wonders and gave Moses the words to tell Pharaoh. Yet in Exodus 4:24 God is going to kill Moses! Thankfully, his wife, Zipporah acted quickly and circumcised their son, highlighting God’s demand for obedience, not convenience, and her act saved Moses. This is evidence that although Moses was chosen, he had neglected to submit to Gods law of circumcision. A covenant that was established back in Genesis 17 with Abraham.
Moses was chosen by God for a purpose. We often expect that saying “yes” to God means a smooth path, but obedience often requires setting our own hearts and homes in order first. Moses learned that NO ONE IS EXEMPT from following God’s commands ENTIRELY.
When you are called to a difficult task, you may face discouragement or opposition. The temptation is to quit. However, today’s reading reminds us that God is sovereign over the hard hearts and the delays. Our role is not to achieve success, but to be faithful and obedient, even when the first attempt leads to more pressure.
Pray:
Lord, thank you for Your patience with me when I hesitate. Give me the courage to obey You completely, even in the small, uncomfortable areas of my life. When I face opposition, help me to trust in Your sovereignty and power to work out Your plan, rather than relying on my own strength. Amen.
