Day 37
Read: Exodus 16:1 – 19:25
In today’s reading, God transforms a grumbling, fearful Israel in the wilderness into a trusting nation by providing daily manna, water from the rock, and revealing Himself at Mount Sinai.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.” (Exodus 16:4)
Immediately after deliverance, the Israelites grumbled, forgetting God’s power and desiring to return to slavery!
Rather than abandonment, God responds with mercy, sending manna and quail. He teaches a crucial lesson: reliance on Him. Gathering only enough for the day required daily, active faith. Extra food rotted, showing that storing for tomorrow stemmed from fear, not trust. God further proved Himself by providing water from a rock (Exodus 17:6).
Like the Israelites, we often complain when facing discomfort, forgetting God’s pas faithfulness. Shift your attitude from grumbling to gratitude. Recognize that complaints against circumstances are often complaints against God.
God promises to meet our needs, not our greeds.
Are you trying to hoard security, or are you relying on God for “daily bread”?
The wilderness is designed to teach us that we do not live by bread alone, but by every word from God.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my Provider. Forgive me for the times I grumble instead of trusting You. Help me to trust You for today’s needs and to find my satisfaction in Your provision and Your Word. Amen.
