Day 15
Read in this order:
- Genesis 40:1-23
- Genesis 35:28-29
- Genesis 41:1-57
Reflect:
How can we trust in God’s sovereignty and timing, even when faced with long periods of suffering, abandonment, and disappointment, as exemplified by Joseph’s journey from prison to power and the quiet passing of his father, Jacob?
Joseph remained faithful and discerning in prison, even when he was forgotten by the cupbearer for TWO FULL YEARS!
How do you maintain faith and patience when your efforts seem to go unnoticed or unappreciated, or when God’s plan seems delayed?
Joseph recognized that the interpretation of dreams belonged to God alone and gave Him the credit.
Can you identify instances in your own life where, in hindsight, you can see God working for your good through difficult or unjust situations?
Joseph’s story is a pattern of suffering leading to a purpose far beyond his own understanding – saving many lives.
How does the pattern of Joseph’s life (and the life of Christ) inform your understanding of personal trials and the ultimate purpose of suffering in a believer’s life?
Even in prison, Joseph showed concern for others. He revealed his inner character despite his own plight when asking the baker and cupbearer why they were sad.
In what ways can you think of and care for others, even when weighed down by your own burdens and problems?
The repetition of Pharaoh’s dreams indicated that the matter was firmly decided by God and would happen soon. This emphasizes God’s sovereign control over time.
How does the concept of God’s perfect timing affect your worries about the future or your desire to take matters into your own hands?
The brief mention of Jacob’s death in Genesis 35:28-29 serves as a stark reminder of the passing of generations and the continuity of God’s covenant through his descendants.
How do these narratives of life, death, and God’s sustained promise influence your current walk of faith?
