Thankful For The Psalms
I am so glad the Lord saw fit to include the Psalms in His Holy Word.
In reading through the Psalms, you see the heights of joy and gladness and you also see the depths of a wounded and troubled heart. King David wrote in Psalm 145, I will extol You, my God, O King; And I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. The whole psalm is a praise to the greatness of God. Sounds like David was on top of his world.
In Psalm 13 David writes, How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily?
I take comfort in reading these writings of King David. This is the man that God decreed would be king over Israel. But it didn’t happen overnight and without a great battle. He was chased down by king Saul who tried to kill him many times. David hid in caves fleeing for his life. I’m sure some of these psalms were borne from these difficult experiences.
Can you identify with David? I can. We have an enemy of our souls who will try to derail us. In our walk with Jesus, we will do battle. We can expect this. But we can take heart that Jesus Christ has won the battle, and we are more than conquerors. Praise our great God.
