Going Through
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Again, Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John8:12 NIV
Going through the Bankhead tunnel in Mobile, Alabama was the most exciting part of our family trip from Texas to Florida each summer. As soon as we reached the Alabama border my brother Danny and I begged, “Daddy, are we there yet?”
Not yet, it won’t be long,” he answered.
At last, it loomed ahead, the excitement mounted as we prepared for the dark journey beneath the earth. Once inside, we thought we may never see the sun again. But soon, the light appeared, the car moved on, and our prized tunnel was a spot in the distance.
In adult life, we don’t anticipate our tunnels with such childhood joy. In fact, we pray they will pass us by. But inevitably, pain, loss, and broken dreams will be our unwelcome visitors. This is when we make the choice. Will going through these trials wrap us in a shroud of darkness? Or will we trust Jesus to lead us through the shadows?
If we choose to trust, then the light appeared at the end of the Bankhead Tunnel so Jesus will lead us from darkness into His light.
“Lord, help me to trust and wait upon you in the shadows of my life.”
