When I was growing up and began going to school, I had to walk about one mile to get there. It was not the distance that bothered me. It was the first couple of blocks that I dreaded going by. It was there that two much older girls would bully me almost every day. They would even bully me when school was out. For those of you who were bullied, you know how awful that experience can be. It got so bad that one time they kicked me so hard I had to crawl home and be seen by a doctor.
After that experience, I knew it had to stop and I was going to stand up to them, though much smaller, and bring an end to it. I had a long wooden bow and when I saw them outside one day, I approached them. When I got close enough, I started hitting them with it until they begged me to stop. They never bothered me again.
On our journey we face other types of “enemies” such as doubt, fear, loneliness, and the greatest enemy of all, who we battle daily, Satan. They bully us in different ways.
These enemies cannot be defeated by picking up a nearby bow and beating them. It is a spiritual battle that must be fought with spiritual weapons. However, we do have someone beside us who has promised to fight by our side to give us the victory, Jesus. Trust Him!
“For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4 NIV
your story reminds me of a song by Shane and Shane – I’m fighting the battle You’ve already won…no matter what comes my way You will overcome. What encouragement and power our Lord gives us.
We need all we can get! Jesus is the ultimate source.
