Day 26
Read: Job 26:1 – 29:25
Reflect:
Job describes God as one who “hangs the earth on nothing.”
How does reflecting on God’s omnipotence over creation help me trust Him with the “unsupported” areas of my life?
In today’s reading, Job takes an oath of innocence, refusing to admit to sins he did not commit just to satisfy his friends’ theology.
Job says, “till I die, I will not deny my integrity.” (Job 27:5)
What is the value of integrity when it brings no immediate reward or comfort?
Job says, “I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.” (Job 27:6)
How does Job’s resolve to hold fast to his righteousness encourage me to maintain my faith even when I do not feel God’s blessing?
Job observes that man can mine precious metals from the earth (Job 28:1-11), but cannot find wisdom.
Where do I tend to search for wisdom before turning to God?
Wisdom is not found in the creation but in the Creator (Job 28:20-28). Wisdom is a manifestation of God Himself and not merely something to be obtained. Although believers can know and understand many things, they cannot attain to the level of Creator-wisdom. Job knew that true wisdom is not found in human understanding but is from God alone.
Job 28:28 says “The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding”
How does this definition of wisdom change my perspective on the “problems” I am currently trying to solve?
How can I better apply the “fear of the Lord” to my daily decisions?
In Job 29:1-25, Job looks back on his former life of blessing, influence, and deep relationship with God. Job longs for the days when “the friendship of God was upon my tent” (Job 29:4)
Do I cherish God’s presence more for the blessings He gives or for the relationship itself?
How can I use my current position, regardless of my suffering, to serve those who are more vulnerable than I am?
How do I handle the loss of status, influence, or comfort?
