A Book’s Cover
We have all heard the expression, don’t judge a book by its cover. Monika and I have seen that play out in our lives over the last several days. Recently we were invited by some friends to join them for dinner at this great new restaurant they heard about. None of us had been there before so it was by word of mouth that we chose the place.
When Monika and I pulled up in front of the place we were sure we got the directions wrong. The outside resembled an old country bar that had not been painted in years. We ventured inside and were even more taken aback. The entrance had unfinished steps and drywall greeting us. To the left were three tables of four and there was what looked like a small seating area in the back.
We were relieved to see our friends were already there. The first words out of their mouths were, I hope we were not misled. Our friend’s husband assured us that he heard the food was great.
We were ushered into that small seating area in the rear of the building. It was a cramped space with only bar stools to serve as seats. I thought to myself, the food better be good.
I felt better when the well groomed waitresses told us that the chef made all foods fresh daily, including the ketchup.
I ordered macadamia nut encrusted walleye. It was the best walleye I had even eaten and that says a lot. All our meals were outstanding, and we would go back again but next time we would reserve those three tables we saw upon entering.
