An Anchor
I enjoy fishing, as those of you who read this blog on a regular basis already know. I also own a small fishing boat. One of the most important pieces of equipment I have in the boat is an anchor.
An anchor can hold the boat in one position when there is a strong wind blowing across the water. It can hold the boat from going downstream when fishing in a river that has a strong current. I have been in situations where the anchor was not heavy enough to hold the boat. I had to move to a different part of the river or lake.
In life we can find ourselves in situations where we are facing heavy winds pushing against us or powerful currents wanting to take us downstream with them. We feel our anchor slipping because of financial issues, job related problems, or relationship struggles. We need an anchor in our lives to give us stability and strength.
That anchor is Jesus. He is the anchor of our souls. He is the source of stability and hope in times of trouble. He keeps us from drifting aimlessly through life. Our hope is based on the finished work of Christ.
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 6:19-20 NIV
