Jesus Listens
I have been accused more than once and with some validity that I was not listening. Maybe, you too have been on the receiving end of, you’re not listening.
Listening is an art to be sure. To “really” listen implies that one is not only understanding what the person is saying but is able to read behind the lines the deeper intent behind the words being spoken. If Monika says to me “we need to talk,” and if I am “listening” to her, it means more than discussing the days plans. It means, I need to “stop” what I am doing and give her my “undivided’ attention. There is a problem that needs to be addressed.
When I preach on Sunday mornings, I often wonder how many people are “listening”. We all want to be listened to when we talk and feel like we have something important to say.
Friends, Jesus hears our every word and understands our deepest thoughts. He never gets distracted. In fact, Jesus loves to listen to us when we come to Him with all that fills our heart. His listening skills are perfect because He is God. Sometimes we just need Jesus to listen to us. Sometimes we need to just talk to Him and tell Him how we are feeling. Not only does He listen but He understands the deeper intent behind our thoughts and words.
“In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” Psalm 18:6 NIV
