Aliens
What comes to mind when you hear the word, alien? My first thoughts are of UFOs, flying saucers, and Roswell, New Mexico. If some new “credible” sighting comes up, I will probably read or listen to it. Now here is the BIG question. Do you believe in aliens?
Well, there is another use of the term alien. An alien is a foreigner, especially one who is not a naturalized citizen of the country where they are living. An alien has no rights of citizenship in the country where they are living. However, an alien is subject to all the laws of the country in which they live. In a sense, aliens are strangers in our midst.
I know what it “feels like” to live in a country as an alien. When I moved into the village of Sarab Saeed in Iran, I was the first foreigner of any nation to ever live among them. They treated me as an outsider and a stranger. Some were even convinced I was a CIA agent. My name is Paul Smith. Until the day I left Iran I was always an alien.
That great man of faith, Abraham, lived as an alien in the promised land. His hope was fixed on the promised land to come, heaven. Friends, our citizenship is not on this earth. We live as aliens on this earth. May we never get comfortable with our living conditions here. For some earth is the best it will ever get. For others, this is the worst, things will ever be. Fix your eyes upward, not on the things of this earth. Our home is not here.
“By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents,” Hebrews 11:9 NIV
