The Eye of the Storm
While I was living in New Jersey I passed through the eye of a hurricane. It was quite an experience to look up and see blue sky in the middle of a hurricane. I was far enough inland that the area only suffered from trees being knocked down by the force of the wind on the back side of the eye.
I was in FL when hurricane Francis struck a few years ago. While not being near the eye of that storm, it was very windy, some houses lost their roofs, and the power got knocked out for days. I was safely hunkered down in a hospital, thanks to my daughter who worked there. When I left the hospital, I witnessed extensive damage. The power of hurricanes is amazing. Hurricanes destroy huge areas. When I was in the middle of a hurricane, I was powerless to stop what was going on outside.
Many times, we find ourselves in the middle of emotional and spiritual storms. We feel powerless but remember we know Someone who can quiet the storm, Jesus. Just as Jesus stood up in the boat and commanded the winds to stop, only He can bring peace to our souls in the middle of a storm. Only He can bring peace to our souls when everything around us is being ripped apart. He has that kind of power!
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. 4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.” Isaiah 26:3-4 NIV
