Come Now Let Us Reason Together
In reading the book of Isaiah God is speaking through the prophet to the kingdom of Judah. The kingdom has fallen into idolatry and immorality. Isaiah writes in Chapter 1:4 Alas sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! Ouch! And yet 14 verses later, “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18
Do you hear the tenderness of the Father? Do you see Him reaching down through His prophet, Isaiah and calling His people to repentance? The Bible is full of the history of the Jewish nation and what happened when they forsook the ways of God. In Luke Chapter 19 Jesus drew near to Jerusalem and wept over it. He could see the coming destruction, because of their unbelief.
Our nation, like Israel has left the precepts of God and kicked God out of the public square. Isaiah 1:7 states, “Your country is desolate, Your cities are burned with fire; Strangers devour your land in your presence; And it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.” How history repeats itself. As it was in Isaiah’s day so it is in our day.
Proverbs 14:34 says “Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” It will not be through weapons and military strength that a nation prospers but a people choosing to follow God’s ways and laws. Our merciful God is still calling; Come now and let us reason together, say the LORD. It is my heartfelt desire and countless others that we return to Him in our nation
