With Me There Is Safety
King Saul, filled with pride and jealousy was determined to kill David. David went into hiding rather than confront Saul face to face. David knew that if he was found, it would not be good. He was able to elude Saul for a time but one day one of Saul’s chief herdsmen recognized David and reported back to Saul.
Ahimelech, the priest who had given David something to eat, was summoned to where Saul was staying. Saul was so outraged by Ahimelech’s kindness that he ordered him and his fellow priests and families to be immediately executed.
Only one person escaped alive that day, Abiathar, the priest’s son. Abiathar, went and found David and told him all that the king had done and how only he had escaped. Then David told him this, “Stay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. With me you shall be in safekeeping.” 1 Samuel 22:23.
Friends, there is someone who is seeking my life, your life, and the life of our friends. That someone is also filled with pride and jealousy. That someone only wants to kill and destroy what God is doing. That someone is Satan and his band of fallen angels.
The answer for each of us every day is to stay close to Jesus because only with Him are we safe. Only He can shield us from the attacks of Satan. He is able!
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3 NIV
