Day 41
Read: Exodus 29:1 – 31:18
Remember that Moses is still on Mount Sinai receiving directions from God. In today’s reading Moses is given strict consecration of priests (Aaron and his sons) and expectations for the Tabernacle. This emphasizes that God requires holiness for service and desires to dwell among His people. Through purification, sacrifice, and the commissioning of skilled craftsmen, God establishes that TRUE worship involves dedicated service and sanctification by His grace.
Aaron and his sons will undergo a seven-day consecration process to become priests, involving washing, special clothing, and blood applied to their right ear, thumb, and big toe. This ritual was not just a formality, it was a physical representation of being set apart (sanctified) for God’s service.
The blood on the ear, thumb, and big toe symbols that a servant of God must HEAR His word, WORK with His hands, and WALK in His ways.
How does the blood on the ear, thumb, and big toe apply to you today? Is your hearing, work, and daily walk consecrated to God?
As believers in Jesus Christ, we are called to be a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). Like the priests, we are washed – not by water – but by the blood of Jesus, and consecrated by the Spirit for a specific purpose in His kingdom.
What is your task? What unique skills has God given you and how can they be used for His Kingdom?
God does not just call us – He equips us. In Exodus 31, Bezaleel and Aholiab, are recognized for their gift with divine wisdom to build the Tabernacle. God designed specific roles for all of us to fill in His service. He has equipped up with unique abilities to bring glory to Him.
Approach God with reverence, remembering that the ultimate goal of these sacrifices was so He could dwell among them – a promise in us through the Holy Spirit.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for sanctifying me through the sacrifice of Jesus. Help me to live a consecrated life, setting my heart, ears, and hands apart for Your service. Fill me with Your Spirit to fulfill the specific purpose You have for me. Amen.
