Day 80
Read: Deuteronomy 31:30 – 32:52 and then Psalm 90
In Moses’ song, he compared the loving care of God for His people to an eagle that teaches her young to fly by pushing them out of the nest. However, it’s she doesn’t leave them alone to fend for themselves. Instead, she swoops down and allows them to drop onto her wings and carries them back to the safety of the nest. Like the eagle, the Lord took Israel from captivity in Egypt and thrust them into the wilderness but did not leave them there to fend for themselves. The Lord remained with the nation to give them protection, strength, and guidance.
After Moses recites the song, he urges the Israelites to remember God’s protection and teaches them that true wisdom comes from numbering our days and relying on God’s steadfast love, not our own strength. Moses faces his own mortality. God reminds Moses that he forfeited his right to enter the Promised Land because of his disobedience (we read about this on Day 64) but because of God’s grace, Moses was permitted to see the land.
God is an unshakeable Rock, and human life is fleeting. In Psalm 90, Moses reminds us in his prayer that God is eternal, meaning God is from everlasting to everlasting. “Everlasting” is not the same as “long-lasting,” which suggests a beginning and demands time and eternity. Time dwells WITHIN God. He causes, affects, and controls time, but time has no hold on Him. The brevity of human life is compared to new grass. Only faith in the eternal God can make life meaningful. Stop wasting time on things that do not last. Ask God to align your daily tasks with His eternal purposes. In times of uncertainty, lean on God’s perfection rather than your own understanding.
Prayer:
Lord, You are my dwelling place. Thank You for being the Rock when everything around me feels like sand. Teach me to make my days count, to live wisely, and to find my deepest satisfaction in Your steadfast love. Amen
